WASHINGTON � The U.S. trade deficit in goods and services in the first half of this year rose 17.9% from a year before to a record $342.90 billion on higher oil prices, all-time high red ink with China and buoyant imports amid strong U.S. economic growth, the Commerce Department said Friday.
The politically sensitive U.S. deficit in goods trade with China surged 31.6% to a record $90.09 billion in the January-June period, and that with Japan rose 15% to $41.62 billion, the department said in a preliminary report. (Kyodo News)"
